When I decided Perimenopause wasn’t going to control me any longer (October 1st, 2022) I had ballooned over well 200. I’d dialed down my food (I thought, at least) and two weeks later I’d jump on the scale and be ready to pitch it across the room because it hadn’t moved, like at all! I’d be so defeated that I’d give in to wine or extra crap thinking I was destined to be overweight at this time of life. Menopause became almost a crutch I’d use to justify my state, along with non-stop travel, four kids and the weight of being “One Fit Widow.” Seriously, the name alone was destroying my personal value since I wasn’t all that fit any longer.

Today, six months later, I’m in the high 160’s. I’d still love to reach an ideal number (155) but I can assure you I hardly step on the scale and as long as muscle definition keeps improving, my energy is good, and I’m happy, the number isn’t really all that important to me. Now that I’ve reached this point I’m slowly replaced fat with muscle so the scale hardly moves but my sizes sure do!Yes, I’ve lost weight/fat but what matters to me is I’m seeing the recomposition of my body that I long for. I’m strong, I’m getting lean again (muscle definition is a key indicator of being lean) and I have more energy than I’ve had in a decade.
The BIG changes to get from October 1st to today....
I’ve prioritized protein (more on that in our nutrition live today and zoom next week).
I’ve almost completely stopped drinking alcohol.
I’ve lifted more consistently and heavier than I have since my early 40’s.

I’ve stopped looking at my body and each day as an end all proposition. Instead it’s an experiment that I am curious about, noticing what works and what doesn’t.
